Psychological Coaching: A Cognitive Behavioural Approach - Masterclass.
(Prof. Stephen Palmer)

Introduction

This intensive, skills-based masterclass will cover the theory and practice of the cognitive-behavioural approaches to coaching. It will be interactive with a focus on practising psychological coaching skills. It will cover:

  • Definitions of psychological coaching

  • Cognitive models of coaching
  • Overcoming procrastination
  • Performance interfering thoughts
  • Performance enhancing thoughts
  • Thinking errors
  • Thinking skills
  • Imagery skills
  • Use of forms in coaching

 

Work in pairs and small groups will be involved.

Specific learning goals

The main aim of the workshop is for participants to become knowledgeable about cognitive psychological coaching and their application to enhancing performance and managing stress. Specific objectives are:

  • Understand the nature of psychological coaching

  • Develop a working understanding of the cognitive approach to coaching
  • Develop coaching skills to enhance performance and manage stress
  • Practise psychological coaching skills in pairs or triads

Training Faculty

Stephen Palmer. PhD. Professor Palmer is an APECS (Association for Executive Professional Coaching & Supervision.) Founding Accredited Executive Coach, and an APECS Founding Accredited Supervisor of Executive Coaches. (one of only a few accredited supervisors of coaching anywhere in the world). He is also Chair of the British Psychological Society Special Group in Coaching Psychology.
