Postgraduate Certificate in
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

at the Eastern Institute of Technology

Each year since 1988 the Eastern Institute of Technology has presented the Post-Graduate Certificate in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.

This is a nine-month, partly extramural programme, consisting of home study, practice in your own workplace, and two three-day internal blocks at the EIT in Hawkes Bay (usually in July and October - check with EIT for actual dates). The block approach means that students from all over NZ can attend.  The fee set is very reasonable for such a course.

This programme emphasises a broad-based approach,  uniquely combining the two main types of CBT - Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (Ellis) and Cognitive Therapy (Beck) and incorporating other types of CBT including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (Linehan), Multimodal Therapy (Lazarus) and others.

Although the focus is on general CBT, there is enough REBT taught to also meet the practicum requirements for the Primary Certificate in REBT, so students can, if they wish, complete a small amount of additional work and receive the REBT certificate as well.

The programme is taught by Wayne Froggatt, Jenny Nichols, and visiting lecturers.

You can obtain further information by contacting Stacey Wong, Faculty of Health Sciences, Eastern Institute of Technology, Private Bag 1201, Taradale; Ph 06 974 8000 ext.5407. To request information online or read more about the course, click here to go to the course page on the EIT website.
